Job summary

Auto-Owners Insurance in Minnesota is seeking an Underwriter Intern to learn underwriting concepts, study coverages and contracts, and assist with risk assessment under supervision.

You will analyze loss experience, become familiar with policy forms and endorsements, and communicate with independent agents and coworkers to support underwriting decisions.

This paid internship offers a starting hourly rate of $22.00, eligibility for a bonus, and benefits including paid holidays and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Enrolled college student entering junior or senior year.
• Ability to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independently; strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to resolve complex issues.
• Interest in developing product knowledge through approved educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Learn underwriting concepts, study coverages and contracts, and assist with risk assessment under supervision.

• Learn various insurance coverages and contracts along with company philosophy and procedures, in order to make underwriting decisions.
• Become familiar with company policies, manuals, forms and endorsements in order to understand their meaning and use.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risks.
• Acquire a working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting department.
• Effectively communicate with independent agents and other employees through verbal and/or written means.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Student should be currently enrolled and entering their junior or senior year in college.

Rate of Pay

For this position, the anticipated starting hourly rate is: $22.00/hour. This position is also eligible for a bonus opportunity.
