Job summary

Virginia Farm Bureau is seeking a Personal Lines Underwriter to join the underwriting team in Richmond, VA. The role offers a hybrid schedule after training, requiring in-office presence 2 days per week and work from home 3 days.

POSITION TITLE: Personal Lines Underwriter

STATUS: Exempt

COMPENSATION RANGE: $49,000-58,000 Annually

LOCATION: Based out of our beautiful West Creek Office, located at 12580 West Creek Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23238. Hybrid schedule is offered, in office 2 days a week, work from home 3 days a week, after training and probationary period is completed.

Full Time: Fully in-office during training period. Hybrid up to 2 days in office, 3 days at home available once training is completed.

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30am-5pm with 1 hour lunch breaks (37.5 hours per week)

What will I be doing?

Main Duties:

  • Accept, modify or reject applications submitted by our agency utilizing various reports. MVR, CLUE, inspection reports, etc.
  • Evaluate/monitor existing accounts to confirm their continued acceptability.
  • Review change requests, updated information received and obtain any additional needed documentation.
  • Clearly communicate your underwriting decisions with your assigned agents.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with your agents through educational, technical assistance and superior service.
  • Collaborate with your agents, Policy Services, Claims, Management, etc. departments within organization.

Secondary Duties:

  • Travel to agents’ office within the state of Va. Approximately 10% of job duties.
  • Review claim files. Confirm repairs are complete and complete any needed follow up with agent.
  • Manage workload by prioritizing tasks to ensure all responsibilities are completed within acceptable timeframes.
  • All other duties assigned by Manager and/or Vice President.

What is the minimum education needed to apply?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years of Property & Casualty experience.
