Job description

Overview

Are you a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) with a passion for making a real difference in the lives of seniors? Do you believe that true care comes from the heart, seeing beyond the task list to the unique, vibrant person in front of you? Have you worked with residents living with dementia and believe it’s your calling?

At St. Ives Hometown Living of Johns Creek, we’re not just offering a job—we’re offering a chance to share your gifts of empathy, kindness, and strength every single day. As a Caregiver, you are the vital link that ensures our residents not only receive excellent physical support but also feel respected and valued. You will be the cornerstone of our residents’ daily well-being and joy. Your primary mission is to provide personalized, dignified direct care and supervision, while always promoting resident choice, independence, and satisfaction. You will work hand-in-hand with our team to create a warm, supportive, and safe environment where every resident can thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) with utmost respect, always looking for opportunities to offer choices and encourage them to maintain as much independence and personal control as possible.
  • Adhere to protocols and guidelines to ensure the health and safety of every resident, performing essential duties like proper lifting techniques and universal precautions with care and precision.
  • Your role extends far beyond physical care — encourage participation in enriching activities and programs, and dedicate time for meaningful, one-on-one interactions that brighten a resident’s day.
  • Tune into the subtle cues of our residents—monitoring their mood, food intake, and functional status. Document any changes meticulously and communicate with urgency and clarity to the care team, ensuring their needs are met swiftly.
  • Function as a true team player, offering support to colleagues when the need arises. Help maintain the beautiful, clean environment our residents call home—from their personal spaces to the welcoming common areas—always removing soiled items immediately to ensure a fresh, healthy atmosphere.
  • Act immediately and decisively on any resident crisis or emergency, relying on your training and innate caregiving instincts to provide prompt comfort and aid.
  • Foster positive, respectful communication among staff, residents, and families, building a network of trust that supports our entire community.
  • We are seeking individuals who are not only skilled but are also driven by a genuine desire to serve.
Qualifications
  • Heart-Ready: Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean criminal background check.
  • Prepared to Protect: Hold or obtain current certification in emergency first aid and CPR.
  • A Healthy Foundation: Must complete a pre-employment physical examination and tuberculosis screening to ensure fitness for the role.
  • Physical Strength, Gentle Touch: The ability to bend, lift, carry, and move residents demonstrating the strength necessary to provide safe resident transfers and support.
  • Dedicated to Growth: A commitment to completing necessary training in areas like emergency procedures, resident’s rights, infection control, and dementia care, and obtaining required annual continuing education hours.
  • Clear Communication: The ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence, and to speak effectively to residents, families, and staff.
  • A Flexible Spirit: Willingness to work various schedules and shifts as needed to ensure our residents always have the support they deserve.
