Job summary

Mercy LIFE Valley View in Elwyn, PA seeks a Personal Care Assistant PRN to provide essential personal care and health support within a community for deaf seniors. This role involves assisting with daily activities, safety monitoring, and transportation accompaniment, with opportunities for development.

The position requires a high school diploma and flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL); ASL proficiency is a plus.
• Experience with frail/elderly populations is preferred, or training provided by PACE upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ongoing participant assessments and monitoring.
• Provide assistance with daily activities, including toileting, grooming, and meals.
• Aid in maintaining physical activity and exercise routines.
• Identify safety hazards and respond to emergencies.
• Assist with recreational activities, meal service, and housekeeping.
• Report any changes in participant's condition to center staff.
• Escort participants to appointments and assist with transportation.

Incentive: Shift Differential for 2nd and 3rd shift

Position Purpose

This role impacts participants lives by providing essential personal care services and health support.

Position Details

This program provides services to a community specifically comprised of deaf seniors. All candidates must be willing to learn American Sign Language (ASL).

What you will do

• Conduct ongoing participant assessments and monitoring.
• Provide assistance with daily activities, including toileting, grooming, and meals.
• Aid in maintaining physical activity and exercise routines.
• Identify safety hazards and respond to emergencies.
• Assist with recreational activities, meal service, and housekeeping.
• Report any changes in participant's condition to center staff.
• Escort participants to appointments and assist with transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience working with a frail/elderly population or if less than one (1) year of experience, must receive appropriate training from the PACE organization upon hiring.
• Must be willing to learn American Sign Language (ASL). ASL proficiency preferred.
• Preferred experience in long-term care or geriatric programs.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license, insurance and use of personal vehicle.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to change.
• Some travel within the region may be required.
