Job summary

Mercy LIFE Valley View, part of Trinity Health PACE, is seeking a Personal Care Assistant PRN to support deaf seniors. The role requires assisting with daily activities, safety monitoring, and transport support, with ASL learning emphasized.

The position offers part-time, rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and includes benefits like daily pay. Applicants should have a high school diploma and be willing to learn ASL. A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year experience with frail/elderly; training if <1 year.
• Willing to learn ASL; ASL proficiency preferred.
• Experience in long-term care or geriatric programs preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Some regional travel may be required.

• Conduct ongoing participant assessments and monitoring.

• Aid in maintaining physical activity and exercise routines.
• Identify safety hazards and respond to emergencies.

Incentive: Shift Differential for 2nd and 3rd shift

Position Purpose

This role impacts participants lives by providing essential personal care services and health support.

Position Details

This program provides services to a community specifically comprised of deaf seniors. All candidates must be willing to learn American Sign Language (ASL).

What you will do

• Conduct ongoing participant assessments and monitoring.
• Provide assistance with daily activities, including toileting, grooming, and meals.
• Aid in maintaining physical activity and exercise routines.
• Identify safety hazards and respond to emergencies.
• Assist with recreational activities, meal service, and housekeeping.
• Report any changes in participant's condition to center staff.
• Escort participants to appointments and assist with transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience working with a frail/elderly population or if less than one (1) year of experience, must receive appropriate training from the PACE organization upon hiring.
• Must be willing to learn American Sign Language (ASL). ASL proficiency preferred.
• Preferred experience in long-term care or geriatric programs.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid driver's license, insurance and use of personal vehicle.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to change.
• Some travel within the region may be required.
