$15.00/hr - $18.00/hr
Position: Personal Care Assistant
Department: Adult Day Program
Reports to: Program Manager of Adult Services
Supervises: N/A
Status: Full-time, Part-time Non-exempt
Position Summary: Supports clients withpersonal hygiene, grooming, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
Essential and Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides guidance to promote physical, communication, and social/emotional development and functional independence for self-care
- Provides personal assistance for personal hygiene, grooming, toileting, and other activities of daily living based on individualized care plans
- Supports efforts to reinforce, instruct, and train parents/guardians/other caregivers regarding the adult’s care needs.
- These essential functions require visual/hearing acuity, sufficient strength, and the ability to bend, reach, grasp, manipulate objects, pull/push, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds or exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects or human bodies with or without the use of adaptive equipment. Walking, standing, or working on the floor may constitute at least half of work time. Lifting forces vary with adult weight and level of ability to assist in the movement.
Individuals holding this position are required to attend initial orientation and periodic training offered by Redwood, and to complete all training required by Redwood or regulation, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Staff members demonstrate accuracy, timeliness, and a commitment to quality, safety and a healthy, clean and orderly environment in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, licenses, certification, accreditation, and business integrity standards.
Work Environment:
Work is performed with and for adults with special needs/disabilities in the Adult Day program and care rooms in Redwood’s building, on the grounds, and in the community. Redwood’s building is climate controlled with standard lighting. When conducting duties outside of the building, lighting and temperature reflect seasonal conditions. Noise levels are moderate. There is minimal-to-no exposure to hazardous chemicals withsomeexposure to contagious conditions, such as the common cold and body fluids. Adults may display disruptive behavior.
Required Education and Experience:
A High School diploma or GED
Preferred Education and Experience:
One-year of experience providing services to adults with disabilities preferred.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of how to assist adults with personal hygiene, toileting, grooming, dressing, and other activities of daily living to assure appropriate standards of care
- Ability to accurately determine and document food and fluid intake/output
- A caring, nurturing, encouraging, and patient attitude with adults with special needs
- Behavior management skills
- Ability to learn and utilize computer applications to complete required documentation
- Ability to relate respectfully to adults with disabilities and families, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
- Adequate hearing, vision, and physical strength and ability, including the ability to lift and handle adults as described in the essential functions, with or without the use of adaptive devices.
- Good reading, writing, spelling, & math abilities for accurate completion of documentation/reports/records.
- Clear speech and good expressive language to support adult and/or family communication.
- Willingness to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to see/hear adults under his/her care at all times.
- Sound judgment to avoid dangerous situations in adult program settings.
- Reliable transportation to/from work.
- Ability to use age-appropriate activities, language, and behaviors with adults with disabilities.
- Display professionalism in appearance, actions, and behaviors in keeping with the assigned role.
- Acceptable Criminal Background check, Child Abuse & Neglect (CAN) Central Registry check.
