Job summary

Leicestershire County Council Shared Lives Service is seeking a compassionate Shared Lives Carer to assist a sociable client in daily living on a temporary six-month basis. The role includes personal care, meal preparation, medication support, and help with household tasks in a home setting.

The successful candidate will work a flexible rota, provide cover for sickness/holidays, and support access to the community while ensuring privacy, dignity and respect for the client.

Responsibilities

• Assists with showering and personal care as required.
• Assists with all meal and drink preparation in line with healthy diet.
• Provides assistance with daily medication.
• Provides support with all household tasks (laundry, cleaning, dishes).
• Supports client to access the community and engage in activities.
• Willingness to drive; own car not required but license preferred.
• Aware that client may wake at night and require reassurance.

Looking for a friendly person to assist a sociable person with living a full life - Temporary for an initial six months

Preferred days/times

• One full day per week to be broken down into 15 day hours and 9 night hours
• PA must be able to work on a flexible rota and provide cover for sickness and holidays if needed

Tasks/duties

• Requires full assistance with showering and personal care
• Requires full assistance with all meal and drink preparation (they are following a healthy diet)
• Requires full assistance with daily medication
• Requires full assistance with all household tasks (laundry, dusting, hoovering, washing up/drying etc.)
• Requires support accessing the community
• Driving license preferred, but not essential. Client's own accessible wheelchair vehicle is available
• The client can wake at night and require reassurance and support to go back to sleep

Client main diagnosis

Electric wheelchair user with Quadriplegic Spastic Cerebral palsy, a severe learning disability, and Autism. Sleep apnoea

Manual Handling

Hoisted for all transfers on a 1:1 basis

Mobility

Client uses an electric wheelchair in and out of the home. There is a manual wheelchair for emergencies if the electric wheelchair stops working

Communication

The client requires time to process information, which needs to be given in short simple sentences

There are no pets in the property

Client enjoys

• Accessing the community to go shopping e.g. Fosse Park
• Walks to Bradgate Park with lunch out
• Local breakfast club
• Visiting family (Nana)
• Being out in the garden (fully wheelchair accessible)
• Pyjama day on a Sunday with a cooked breakfast
• To wear nice clothes and to choose from two options

Client dislikes

• Loud noises (due to making her jump)
• Being rushed, so plenty of time needs to be allowed for personal care etc.
• Her electric wheelchair being broken
• Three-quarter length sleeves (will try to constantly pull them down)
