Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne is hiring an Engineering Representative I to help residents, contractors, and developers navigate water and sewer permits, fees, and utility requirements while keeping projects compliant and on track. Hours are 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, with some variation.

This role blends customer service, technical coordination, and behind-the-scenes problem solving. Requires an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field; a Bachelor’s is preferred and

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or related field required; Bachelor’s preferred.
• Relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Experience in permitting, utilities, construction support, public works, or municipal services is a plus.
• Strong customer service and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Support customers and contractors by answering inquiries and guiding them through permitting and utility processes
• Process fees, contracts, service orders, and daily cash reconciliations accurately
• Coordinate permits, inspections, developer agreements, and project documentation
• Maintain and digitize records in systems like Accela and GIS to keep projects organized and compliant
• Collaborate with engineering staff and City departments to resolve issues and keep projects moving forward
