Job summary

City of Fort Wayne is seeking an Engineering Representative I to support Development Services by guiding residents, contractors, and developers through water and sewer permits, fees, and utility requirements while keeping projects compliant and organized.

This full-time role emphasizes customer service, technical coordination, and behind-the-scenes problem solving, with standard hours 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday, and opportunities to contribute to city's infrastructure and public works.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or related field required; Bachelor's preferred
• Relevant experience may substitute for education
• Experience in permitting, utilities, construction support, public works, or municipal services is a plus
• Strong customer service and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

• Support customers and contractors by answering inquiries and guiding them through permitting and utility processes
• Process fees, contracts, service orders, and daily cash reconciliations accurately
• Coordinate permits, inspections, developer agreements, and project documentation
• Maintain and digitize records in systems like Accela and GIS to keep projects organized and compliant
• Collaborate with engineering staff and City departments to resolve issues and keep projects moving forward
