Job summary

The City of Benicia is seeking a Development Services Technician I/II to support the Building Division, handling permit intake, application reviews, and helping engineers, architects, and homeowners navigate the permitting process in a collaborative, service-focused environment.

Under supervision, you will assist with fee calculations, issuing permits, maintaining records, and communicating codes and requirements to the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in building/planning encouraged.
• At least 1 year of clerical or technical work involving public contact.
• ICC Permit Technician Certificate required within 1 year for Technician I; certificate required at hire for Technician II.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate building permit applications for completeness and accuracy.
• Provide information to the public on permit process, codes and inspection procedures.
• Prepare fee estimates and issue permits after approvals.
• Maintain account records and assist with filing and data entry.
