Job summary

The City of Independence is seeking a Permits Technician to support the Building Inspection Division of the Community Development Department. You will review applications, issue permits, handle zoning and dangerous building complaints, and provide administrative support to staff and customers.

Responsibilities include processing permit applications and trade licenses, answering questions, data entry, internet permit processing, field inspection coordination, and Notary services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of related experience with customer service.
• ICC Certification related to Permits Technician required or can be obtained within 18 months.
• Missouri Notary or ability to obtain notary within 3 months and maintain active status.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Review applications and issue building and construction permits.
• Handle zoning and dangerous building complaints.
• Provide administrative support to the Building Inspection Division.
• Process permit applications, permit requests and submittals from front counter customers.
• Answer questions from contractors and customers and answer phones.
• Process internet permits and inspection requests; enter data and track documents.
• Process and issue trade licenses; call out field inspections to staff.
• Balance cash drawer and provide Notary services to customers and City staff.
