  • To support the vision, mission and guiding principles of the City.
  • While performing any procedure, all associates and contract personnel must observe applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is required.
  • Attend and participate in training opportunities and seminars relevant to this position.
  • Adhere to appropriate City operating procedures, benefit rules, employment, and safety policies/practices.

  • Greets the general public and answers multiple telephone lines; receives inquiries, requests and complaints from the general public and resolves or forwards to appropriate departments
  • Reviews building permit and land disturbance applications; verifies application information; receives residential and commercial building plans; calculates permit fees
  • Establishes and maintains data for residential and commercial building projects
  • Computes amounts for City fees including building permits, land disturbance permits (LDP’s), erosion control bonds, storm-water fees, plans review fees and other associated fees
  • Receives necessary approval from Public Services, Fire Marshal, engineers, code enforcement and (or) building dept
  • Issues LDP permits for private residential properties, commercial developments, and approved subdivisions.
  • Receives, records and totals incoming cash and checks for permits, erosion control bonds; balances daily ledger, generates ledger printout and submits ledger with cash to Finance
  • Finalizes and closes out permits when final inspections are completed; including bond check issuance
  • Contacts utility companies for approval on temporary or permanent power requests; maintains related logs and records
  • Verify that necessary departmental approvals are obtained before issuing permits.
  • Verifies that applicants are properly licensed.
  • Must obtain ICC or similar Permit Technician Certification within 6 months.
  • Calculates permit fees and submits all calculated fees to the appropriate personnel.
  • Completes the necessary portions of the applications.
  • Assures that the application forms are fully completed by the applicant.
  • Compiles and prints monthly statistical reports for the U.S. Census Bureau, Fulton County Tax Assessor and other agencies and organizations; posts all permits and business activity for Census Bureau reference
  • Answers questions and provides routine information to commercial builders, developers and homeowners on procedures for obtaining permits, City regulations regarding setbacks, easements and land development requirements
  • Formulate and files correspondence, memos, statistical reports and other documents for the department
  • Keeps necessary records up to date
  • Prepare and respond to open records requests and to incoming correspondence requiring replies
  • ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Any other duties as assigned.

  • Job has recurring work situations involving moderate degrees of discretion. The need for accuracy and effective utilization of accepted programs and procedures is high. Errors in judgment and execution will waste time and resources adversely impacting unit performance. Incumbent operates independently but work is verified by supervision.

Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in local, state or federal government planning, zoning, community development, housing or building inspections, construction, or related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable

  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn the department’s policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of city policies and procedures that relate to assigned job duties

  • Skill in reading and interpreting site plans, zoning maps, engineering/architectural drawings, topographic maps and aerial photographs

  • Ability to analyze complex situations, problems and data, and use sound judgment in drawing conclusions and making decisions
  • Ability to comprehend and articulate complex facts and relationships in detail, to summarize and write clearly, concisely legibly and professional manner.
