This is an entry-level opportunity, and previous municipal permitting experience is not required. If you’re organized, comfortable working with people and technology, willing to learn, and looking for a career with room to grow, we want to hear from you. The City will train the right candidate.

As a Permit Technician, you’ll work directly with residents, contractors, design professionals, and City staff while learning building permitting, planning and zoning, floodplain management, coastal development, construction, and local government operations.

It’s a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with local government, build professional skills and certifications, and start a career that can grow with you.

  • Maintain permit, plan review, inspection, contractor, property, fee, and related records within City systems.
  • Route applications and plans for review and coordinate with City departments, consultants, contractors, and outside agencies.
  • Schedule inspections and assist with permit closeouts, Certificates of Occupancy, Certificates of Completion, and related documentation.
  • Assist with FEMA, floodplain, Elevation Certificate, substantial improvement/substantial damage, coastal, hurricane, and storm-related records.
  • Maintain Department files, correspondence, electronic records, and public records.
