Job summary

LesueurInc in Le Sueur, MN is seeking a Tool Maintenance Technician - Permanent Mold to maintain and repair permanent mold tooling used in aluminum casting. You will ensure molds and tooling are in optimal condition to support safe, efficient production and high quality outputs.

The role requires strong mechanical troubleshooting, the ability to read blueprints, and hands-on experience with milling machines, grinders, lathes, and precision measuring tools.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• 2+ years of tool maintenance experience, preferably in permanent mold or foundry operations.
• Strong understanding of permanent mold casting processes.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators).
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of mold coatings and release agents.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and cooling systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on permanent molds and related tooling.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble molds.
• Troubleshoot mold-related defects (flash, mismatch, porosity, sticking, etc.).
• Operate tool room equipment such as milling machines, grinders, lathes, and polishing tools.
• Maintain mold cooling lines, ejector systems, slides, and cores.
• Ensure proper alignment and fit of mold components.
• Modify molds as required for process improvements or engineering changes.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Work closely with production and quality teams to resolve tooling issues.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and proper handling of heavy tooling.
• Assist in new mold trials and setup when required.
