Job summary

Midway Living is seeking a Housing Specialist to assist families in shelter units in developing permanent housing options in New York City. You will assess housing needs, coordinate resources, and help residents obtain housing leads and permanent housing.

The role emphasizes collaboration with case management staff, documenting cases, and advocating with landlords, realtors and public housing agencies to meet timelines. Some evening/weekend hours required.

Qualifications

• Degree required: Bachelor’s in Human Services or related field.
• Experience in NYC housing market preferred (two years minimum or equivalent).
• Familiarity with housing entitlement systems encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing assessments and readiness evaluations.
• Provide comprehensive case management on housing issues.
• Maintain case records and coordinate with staff to secure support services for permanent housing.
• Identify and contact housing resources and leads.
• Establish linkages with real estate brokers and landlords.
• Advocate to public housing, realtors, landlords, and agencies to secure permanent housing.
• Conduct housing workshops for clients.
• Monitor referrals to ensure active pursuit of permanent housing.
• Work schedule may include some evening and weekend hours.
