Job description

Position Overview

Permanent Substitute Teacher at Proviso Math & Science Academy. Reports to the Building Principal and Grade Level Principal. Full‑time position with benefits.

Location & Schedule

Location: Proviso Math & Science Academy.

Schedule: Same as teachers.

Compensation

$180 per day + health benefits. Sick leave pay: 1 paid day per month accrued at the end of each month worked.

Essential Functions

• Deliver lesson plans as instructed by the regular classroom teacher and/or school administrator.
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students within the assigned classroom and appropriately respond to all emergency situations.
• Ensure the protection of equipment, materials, and facilities as appropriate.
• Communicate in a positive way with all students, staff, and others.
• Manage student behavior to support a positive learning environment.

Other Functions

• May be required to participate in building events such as fire drills, evacuations, assemblies, etc.

Qualifications

• Active State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or valid ISBE Substitute Teacher License.
• Valid Illinois Substitute Teacher License or Professional Educators License.
• Approval through the West 40 Office.

New Substitute Certificate Process

• Must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
• Submit an application online in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS).
• Pay a $100 fee electronically upon submission.
• Send official transcript showing an awarded bachelor’s degree to ISBE.
• Register license in ELIS after issuance.
• License valid for five years; renewal allowed if Illinois’ TAP 400 test passed.
• Individuals with a lapsed PEL and no outstanding professional development are eligible; those with suspended or revoked PEL/ELS and deficiencies are not.
