Job summary

Sylvania is seeking qualified substitutes to cover teacher absences within Michigan schools. The role requires a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or eligibility for a Substitute Permit, and availability to work the school calendar for the assigned building level.

The substitute may be auto-assigned to cover absences at the home building and could be moved to other buildings within the same level. Some assignments may occur at the home building based on need.

Qualifications

• Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or qualify for a Michigan Substitute Permit.
• Availability to work the school calendar for assigned building level.
• Auto-assigned to cover teacher absences at home building; may be moved to another building within the same level as needed.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be found acceptable by the Board of Education.

Responsibilities

• Cover teacher absences in assigned building as needed.
• Potentially be moved to different buildings within the same level (elementary to elementary, middle to middle, etc.).
• May be assigned to work at the home building per building needs.

Job description

Sub Permit--08/31/2026 ($135/day, $67.50/half-day)

Teaching Certificate--10/09/2026 ($175/day, $87.50/half-day)

Pay Rate and Start Date dependent on permit vs. certification status.

1) Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or qualify for a Michigan Substitute Permit.

2) Will be expected to be available to work the school calendar for assigned building level.

3) Will be auto-assigned to cover Teacher absences at home building. If coverage not needed there, may be moved to another building within same level (i.e. elementary to elementary, middle school to middle school, etc.) as needed.

4) May be assigned to work at home building per building needs.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
