Job summary

Orlando Health is seeking a Perioperative Support Associate for the DPH Surgery department in a full-time role. Responsibilities include patient transport, OR sanitation, and assisting anesthesia with perioperative tasks.

The team supports a 24/7 surgical service environment across multiple specialties. The candidate should have a background in perioperative, surgery, or procedural areas, and possess basic life support credentials.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
• 1+ year of Periop, OR, or Anesthesia Tech experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

• Clean stretchers, OR tables, equipment and rooms.
• Assist RN and anesthesia staff in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit.
• Perform operating room sanitation tasks and stock supplies in the OR.
• Transport patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
• Assist with positioning patients for procedures and ensure sterile gloving and prep.

Position Summary

• This team member will be cross trained to support anesthesia and the operating room/OR
• Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of aseptic techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized equipment and supplies utilized by the Anesthesiologist/Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist (CRNA)
• Participates as a member of the perioperative nursing team. The primary focus of this position is patient, specimen and equipment transport, O.R. sanitation and assistance with maintenance of unit supply levels.

• The surgery department is located on the second floor of tower A and provides comprehensive care on a 24-hour, 7-day week basis.
• Dr. P. Phillips surgery provides intraoperative services for patients requiring Orthopedic, Neurological, General, Burn, Cardiovascular, Endo, Gastroenterology, Vascular, Gynecological, Urology, ENT, Hematology, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Plastics, Thoracic, and robotic services with our 10 OR suites

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Specific duties include cleaning stretchers, O.R. tables, equipment and rooms.
• May assist the registered nurse and anesthetist in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit. Conveys and receives information in a timely manner.
• Performs operating room sanitation tasks.
• Stocks operating room with supplies.
• Checks, counts and stocks supplies (warmers, cabinets, bovies, substerile/supply rooms, linen and bags).
• Transports patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
• Provides assistance with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
• Reports defective material or equipment to supervisor.
• Under the direct supervision of the Registered nurse and/or anesthesia provider, may assist with positioning of patients for procedures and performs sterile gloving without contamination and holds extremities during patient preparation.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
• May have limited access to areas storing medications.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
