Orlando Health is seeking a Periop Support Associate I for PRN Days in Same Day Surgery. The role focuses on patient, specimen and equipment transport, OR sanitation and assisting with unit supply maintenance.

Under RN supervision, you will help move patients, stock rooms, assist with positioning, and support the surgical team while upholding safety and infection control standards. Prior healthcare experience not required beyond BLS.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Licensure/Certification: Maintains current BLS/HealthCare certification.
• Experience: None.

Responsibilities

• Participates as a member of the perioperative nursing team.
• Transport patient, specimen and equipment; assist with OR sanitation and with maintenance of unit supply levels.
• Clean stretchers, OR tables, equipment and rooms.
• Transport postoperative patients to the recovery unit; convey information promptly.
• Stock operating room with supplies; perform operating room sanitation tasks.
• Move and lift patients, supplies and equipment; report defective material or equipment.
• Assist with positioning of patients for procedures and sterile gloving under supervision.
• Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications throughout the facility.
• Maintain attendance and comply with policies; participate in environments of care activities.

Periop Support Assoc I PRN Days Same Day Surgery

Position Summary

Participates as a member of the perioperative nursing team. The primary focus of this position is patient, specimen and equipment transport, O.R. sanitation and assistance with maintenance of unit supply levels.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Specific duties include cleaning stretchers, O.R. tables, equipment and rooms.
• May assist the registered nurse and anesthetist in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit. Conveys and receives information in a timely manner.
• Performs operating room sanitation tasks.
• Stocks operating room with supplies.
• Checks, counts and stocks supplies (warmers, cabinets, bovies, substerile/supply rooms, linen and bags).
• Transports patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
• Provides assistance with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
• Reports defective material or equipment to supervisor.
• Under the direct supervision of the Registered nurse and/or anesthesia provider, may assist with positioning of patients for procedures and performs sterile gloving without contamination and holds extremities during patient preparation.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
• May have limited access to areas storing medications.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

• The PSA I must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the perioperative setting.
