Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Inc. seeks a dedicated OR support assistant to join the surgical services team. You will provide clinical support to operating room and anesthesia, participate as a team member, and help maintain efficiency and patient safety.

Responsibilities include preparing rooms, restocking carts, transporting supplies and patients, and ensuring a clean, compliant environment. CNA/CPCT-A or MA/EMT certification preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Reads operating room schedule and anticipates needs.
• Sets up for respective case and facilitates room turnover.

• Assists in lifting, turning and positioning patients for procedures.
• Transports blood or specimens to laboratory and escorts patients/families.
• Maintains cleaning of rooms and equipment and adheres to safety standards.
• Attends staff meetings and supports Joint Commission readiness.

Job Description

Provides clinical support to operating room and anesthesia by participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the supervision of a licensed professional. Proactively supports efforts to maintain efficiency, minimize delays, and ensure delivery of safe patient care. Inventories, cleans, and maintains operating room and anesthesia equipment/supplies, maintains a clean/orderly environment, and transports patients as required.

Experience

• One year of experience in a hospital

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) or certification as a medical assistant or emergency medical technician
• One year of experience in a healthcare facility
• Knowledge of anesthesia and/or equipment

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Reads operating room schedule, anticipates needs, and sets up for respective case.
• Facilitates room turnover for cases to follow, including cleaning and preparation of room, equipment, and anesthesia components.
• Sets up, inventories, and restocks anesthesia and specialty carts to ensure all items are readily available.
• Inventories, orders, and maintains departmental supply stock consistent with departmental demand.
• Assists in lifting, turning, positioning, and preparing patients for surgical procedure, using proper body mechanics.
• Transports blood or specimens to laboratory.
• Escorts patients and families throughout hospital.
• Maintains hallways and equipment room by adhering to fire codes and keeping them orderly and free of obstruction.
• Maintains supplies in holding areas and keeps area free of clutter.
• Checks portable oxygen tanks daily and replaces if necessary.
• Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
• Supports Joint Commission readiness.
