Job summary

TriCities Hospital in Virginia is seeking an experienced RN to support peri-operative care in the operating room. The role includes evaluating patients prior to surgery, preparing for procedures, and collaborating with surgeons, nurses, and techs to ensure patient safety.

The ideal candidate holds an accredited nursing degree (BSN preferred), Virginia RN license or compact license, and certifications such as ACLS and BLS within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current Virginia RN license or compact multistate license.
• ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• BLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• PALS must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
• One year of Operating Room experience required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patients, including IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in surgical site verification and universal protocols.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices.
• Be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care.
• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout shift, and document changes.
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and follow-up.

Education

BSN preferred

Virginia RN license or compact multistate license

BLS within 30 days

PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt within 6 months
