Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Suffolk, NY is seeking a Periop Nursing Associate for the Operating Room on a per diem basis. You will support the Professional and Technical teams by maintaining a clean and safe perioperative environment, handling sanitation, and assisting with patient care support.

Responsibilities include OR turnover, equipment maintenance, room SET-UPS, inventory management, and coordination with staff via shift reports.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency.
• Mature interpersonal skills.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills in management of time and priorities.
• Physical fitness to lift and position patients and move heavy surgical equipment 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates Universal Precautions in cleaning/containment/disposal of blood/body fluids and appropriate PPE use.
• Participates in operating room turnover between surgical cases per policies and procedures.
• Decontaminates used equipment and returns to designated storage for charging or dust cover.
• Inspects and maintains equipment in optimum working order; cords, cables, furniture, carts, IV poles checked.
• Maintains corridors neat and free of safety hazards per safety codes.
• Inspects operating rooms for defects on an ongoing basis.
• Removes, tags and reports items for repair promptly.
• Maintains organization of closets, decontamination room, core, scrub sink and lounge areas.
• Communicates via device and shift reports regarding environment of care concerns.
• Positions OR furniture and equipment for procedures.
• Performs room SET-UPS per guidelines and surgical cards.
• Manages compressed gas inventory and stations.
• Replenishes PAR levels of CSR items and utility supplies.
• Distributes sterile solutions inventory to ORs and warming cabinets.
• Monitors daily linen and blankets warmer; replenishes as needed.
• Keeps masks, hats and shoe cover bins stocked in Perioperative Suites.
• Maintains scrub sinks and soap dispensers.
• Transports and assists with patient handling.
• Provides alert support in emergencies and procuring supplies.
• Adjusts work schedule to unit needs to facilitate intra-op flow.
• Conducts errands, relays messages, and assists with specimen delivery.
