Job summary

Driscoll Health is seeking a skilled perfusionist to operate CPB equipment during open heart procedures and to support the surgical team.

You will monitor patient physiology, select cannula sizes, and respond to intraoperative changes, ensuring patient safety and high standards.

This role requires ABCP accreditation or licensure within 2 years, a bachelor's degree, CEU maintenance, and willingness to on-call for emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an ABCP accredited perfusion program; Bachelor's degree required.
  • Maintains CEUs for ABCP and TMB licensure.
  • ABCP certification or licensed within 2 years from date of hire; CPR, ACLS, and PALS.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and operates the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during open heart surgery
  • Chooses correct CPB circuit size for each patient
  • Monitors and maintains normal patient physiology during CPB
  • Communicates patient changes clearly to the surgeon and anesthesia team
  • Provides autotransfusion services during and after cardiac procedures
  • Participates in quality control and clinical research as assigned

General Purpose of Job:

Performs perfusion practices as it relates to patient specific support and treatment plans under the direct supervision of operating surgeon, anesthesiologist, or ICU attending.

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

  • Prepares and operates the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during open heart surgery
  • Chooses correct size cardiopulmonary bypass circuit for each patient.
  • Chooses patient dependent cannula sizes for each procedure.
  • Monitors and maintains normal patient physiology during CPB.
  • Communicates clearly and efficiently any patient changes to operating surgeon and anesthesia during procedure.
  • Provides autotransfusion services during and after cardiac procedure and to other parts of the hospital that may need autotransfusion services.
  • Provides and/or directs the provision of blood gas analysis, activated clotting times, heparin assay analysis, hemoconcentration, and mechanical circulatory support
  • Participates in quality control and research opportunities as assigned by director
  • Pursue educational and leadership opportunities to enhance professional growth and clinical expertise.
  • Takes on call responsibility for emergency heart procedures and ECMO as assigned by the director.
  • Facilitate communication between all members of the health care team.
  • Communicate with vendor representatives to stay abreast of new innovations in the industry.
  • Ensure appropriate in-service with staff and physicians on new equipment and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:

Graduation from an ABCP accredited perfusion program; Bachelor's degree required.Maintains CEUs for ABCP and TMB licensure

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.

ABCP certification or licensed within 2 years from date of hire.TMB Perfusion Licensure, or licensed within 2 years from date of hire.Must maintain current CPR, ACLS, and PALS.
