Job summary

Driscoll-Children in Corpus Christi, TX seeks a perfusionist to support open-heart surgery, operate CPB equipment, and ensure patient stability throughout procedures.

You will work under the surgeon and anesthesia team, maintain equipment, participate in autotransfusion and quality control, and pursue ongoing education to advance clinical expertise and patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an ABCP accredited perfusion program; bachelor’s degree required.
• ABCP certification or licensure within 2 years of hire.
• TMB Perfusion Licensure, or licensure within 2 years of hire.
• Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• CEUs for ABCP and TMB licensure must be maintained.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and operate the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during open heart surgery.
• Select appropriate CPB circuit sizes for each patient and cannula sizes.
• Monitor and maintain normal patient physiology during CPB.
• Communicate changes to the operating surgeon and anesthesia during procedure.
• Provide autotransfusion services during and after cardiac procedures.
• Provide and/or direct blood gas analysis, ACT, heparin assays and related testing.
• Participate in quality control and research opportunities as assigned.
• Pursue educational and leadership opportunities to enhance growth.
• Take on‑call responsibilities for emergencies and ECMO as assigned.
