Job description

Performance Test Technician - 2nd Shift

Tests mechanical/electromechanical products and systems within the Mission Energy Lab. Evaluates and identifies issues due to fabrication, operation, application, testing, validation, installation, and repair of mechanical/electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for testing and evaluating HVAC systems and components.
  • Responsible for recording and documenting test data.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of refrigeration systems, dehumidifiers, humidifiers and internal components (mechanical, electrical, electromechanical).
  • Must have knowledge of different types of refrigerants (R22, R134a, R407c, R410a, R454B).
  • Must be able to work and communicate with others, including within the department, inter‑departmental and external to the organization.
  • Organize and maintain equipment and tools necessary to perform testing and evaluation activities.
  • Responsible for aspects of performance and evaluations; none disciplinary.
  • Build testing apparatus including ductwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Ability to use all appropriate testing equipment to perform testing, troubleshooting and evaluation.
  • Appropriate safety training to perform job functions (NFPA 70E, OSHA or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing HVAC service or testing.
  • HVAC knowledge.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and understand English instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand bills of material, piping, and electrical diagrams.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to an office environment. It may be required that individuals work in the manufacturing area when providing manufacturing support. This work environment may be at higher noise levels and lower air quality. Individuals may also be required to provide field support for equipment whereby the outside environment may be encountered as well as environments commonly encountered in air‑conditioning equipment installations.
