Job description

Ford Performance is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of automotive innovation and performance. We are seeking an experienced, talented, and highly motivated Performance Engineer to lead vehicle optimization across all Ford Performance Motorsports platforms within the Performance Engineering Group.

In this position…

You will lead a team of engineers focused on optimizing vehicle performance, directing efforts in vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and powertrain solutions to enhance total vehicle performance through car build, integration, setup, simulation, and race strategy. The successful candidate will ensure continuous improvement in performance and processes to achieve industry-leading results across disciplines such as NASCAR, Sports Car, Demonstrators, NHRA, and Off-Road.

This is a hybrid role and requires 3 days per week in the office in Concord, NC.

Qualifications

You’ll have…

  • 5+ years of related experience in the motorsports industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, including weekends.

Even better, you may have…

  • Proven track record of successful project management, including managing complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading and working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing processes, and data analysis techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) principles and applications.
  • Experience with data acquisition tools such as Bosch WinDarab, Motec i2, Atlas, Pi Cosworth, etc.
  • Experience with simulation software like Dymola, VI Grade, CarSim, Canopy, etc.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong collaborative skills across multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Passion for motorsports and a commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do…

Team Leadership and Management
  • Build and lead a high-performing Performance Engineering team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Develop and implement methodologies and processes to enhance vehicle performance.
  • Mentor team members, provide feedback, and create growth opportunities.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring project success and alignment with goals.
  • Define and communicate objectives, aligning with the overall group vision.
  • Support vehicle design, testing, and optimization across multiple programs.
Innovation & Technical Expertise
  • Plan and execute track and simulator testing.
  • Support new vehicle architecture development.
  • Optimize race performance via setup changes and strategy.
  • Analyze data from aero, vehdyn, and powertrain disciplines to recommend improvements.
  • Drive innovation and problem-solving within the team.
  • Use data analysis to refine processes for maximum efficiency.
  • Leverage emerging technologies for performance gains.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Provide data-backed recommendations to optimize systems.
  • Coordinate with Aero, VehDyn, and Powertrain teams for integrated performance.
  • Build strong relationships with design and program teams.
  • Collaborate internally to improve methodologies and results.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the team, sharing lessons learned.
