Position Summary

Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a Perception Engineer IV to lead the design, development, integration, and validation of advanced perception systems for autonomous reach stackers operating in complex container-yard environments. This role develops computer vision, sensor fusion, and environmental modeling solutions that enable autonomous navigation, obstacle avoidance, precision positioning, container handling, and safe material movement. The engineer provides technical leadership, mentors junior engineers, and collaborates with software, systems, GNC, and test teams to deliver robust perception capabilities for autonomous heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and integration of advanced perception algorithms for autonomous vehicle applications.
• Develop perception capabilities including object detection, classification, segmentation, tracking, environmental modeling, and free-space identification.
• Process and fuse data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/GNSS, IMUs, encoders, and other vehicle sensors.
• Develop perception solutions supporting autonomous navigation, motion planning, precision alignment, container handling, and obstacle avoidance.
• Define technical requirements, system architecture, performance metrics, and validation criteria for perception features.
• Evaluate system performance using simulation, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), recorded datasets, and field testing.
• Analyze large datasets to identify performance issues, edge cases, and opportunities for algorithm improvement.
• Optimize perception software for real-time execution on embedded CPU and GPU platforms.
• Lead troubleshooting of complex sensor, software, calibration, synchronization, and system integration issues.
• Mentor engineers, conduct design and code reviews, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout development and deployment.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience developing perception, computer vision, robotics, machine learning, sensor fusion, or autonomous systems software.
• Advanced proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Strong experience with computer vision, point cloud processing, object tracking, environmental modeling, and sensor fusion.
• Experience with cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/GNSS, IMUs, Linux development environments, and ROS/ROS2.
• Experience developing production-quality software using version control, automated testing, continuous integration, and configuration management.
• Strong analytical, debugging, technical leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related discipline.
• Experience developing perception systems for autonomous vehicles, industrial equipment, or mobile robotics.
• Experience with OpenCV, Point Cloud Library (PCL), PyTorch, TensorFlow, CUDA, TensorRT, or similar technologies.
• Expertise in machine learning, LiDAR processing, semantic mapping, multi-object tracking, probabilistic robotics, and advanced sensor fusion.
• Experience optimizing software for embedded GPU platforms and validating autonomous systems using simulation, SIL, HIL, and field testing in industrial or outdoor environments.
