Job summary

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is seeking an on-call Public Programs Fill-In Supervisor to support weekend and special events in our Public Programs department. This per-diem, part-time role collaborates with Museum Educators and senior staff to ensure smooth operations and engaging experiences for families.

The ideal candidate has supervisory experience, is comfortable managing groups of visitors, and can work flexibly on weekends and during peak program periods.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working in retail, cultural centers, community-based organizations, performing arts organizations, or museums.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Excel, and scheduling software.
  • Excellent judgment, professionalism and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to receive and provide feedback in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to engage with children and adults in a welcoming, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor CMOM’s team of Museum Educators and ensure events and daily programs begin on time and that museum policies are being followed.
  • Run events, workshops, and performances, as well as larger cultural holiday festivals, with visiting and guest collaborators, along with the Public Programs staff.
  • Provide oversight and support in the set‑up and break‑down of all family programs.
  • Engage visiting families and children in a variety of programs and activities, including artmaking, STEAM activities, storytelling, facilitated play, movement, and music activities.
  • Assist with the documentation of all programs, as needed.
