Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a Per Diem employee in California to cover shifts as needed, enabling flexible hours beyond the full-time staff. Roles include triage, client communication, and supporting DVMs across diagnostics, treatments, and procedures in a fast-paced setting.

Candidates should have 2–3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience with at least 1 year in specialty/ECC, and hold a CA RVT license or VACSP.

Qualifications

  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 2–3 years clinical experience in a progressive veterinary hospital with at least 1 year in specialty/ECC.
  • CA RVT license or VACSP required; must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per month and be available for 1–2 holidays per year.

Responsibilities

  • Triaging and guiding clients through visits.
  • Assist DVMs with assessments, diagnostics, treatments, procedures.
  • Obtain and process lab samples and use imaging modalities for patient assessment.
  • Perform and monitor sedation/anesthetic events and assist during procedures.
  • Support daily tasks like restraining, cleaning kennels and laundry.

Job description

Per Diem Employee - An employee who is available to work as needed for coverage above and beyond the full time staff members in times of need for efficient patient care. Availability requirements are established by department according to hospital necessity and will include the number and types of shifts, weekends and holidays. Per Diem employees are not eligible for benefits. For overnight shifts worked, a shift differential is offered.

This position offers the opportunity for growth within our emergency and specialty services, with the flexibility of you being able to decide which hours you choose to pick.

Job Duties May Include
  • Triaging incoming patients and managing clients throughout their visit
  • Partnering with DVM's in patient assessment, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
  • Obtaining and processing laboratory samples such as blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
  • Utilizing different modalities of imaging for patient assessment
  • Completing treatments for hospitalized patients
  • Executing, monitoring, and recovering assigned sedation and anesthetic events
  • Assist doctors/technicians before, during, and after procedures with a focus on patient care.
  • Helping with everyday job duties such as laundry, restraining the patients, dishes, walking the dogs, and cleaning the kennels.

  • The ability to prioritize and adapt to a fast paced, fluid environment.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years clinical experience working in a progressive veterinary hospital setting with at least 1 year of specialty/ECC required
  • Current CA RVT license or VACSP required
  • Must be able to work a MINIMUM of 20 hours per month
  • Must be available to work at least 1-2 holidays or company events per year

Our compensation for this role depends on skillset, experience, licensure and typically falls between $23.00 and $40.00

  • Veterinary Assistant: $23 - $35
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT): $28.00 - $40.00
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS): $35.00 - $48.00
