Registered Veterinary Technician or Senior Veterinary Assistant – Surgery – SAGE Campbell

Compensation Range: $26.00 – $40.00/hr, plus shift differentials and a $5,000 hiring bonus for new full‑time employees!

About the role

As a Surgery RVT, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and the well‑being of our patients. Some duties will include:

  • Conduct pre‑surgical examinations and obtain medical histories.
  • Administer pre‑anesthetic medications and monitor patient responses.
  • Insert and manage IV catheters for fluid therapy and medication administration.
  • Sterilize and set up surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in tissue handling, retraction, and other tasks as directed.
  • Record all data accurately for the medical record.
  • Adjust anesthesia levels and administer additional medications as needed.
  • Provide postoperative care, including pain management and wound care.
  • Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure.
  • Explain postoperative care instructions to pet owners and provide updates on the patient's condition.
  • Accurately document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including anesthesia records, patient monitoring data, and postoperative care.
  • Ensure the surgical area complies with veterinary medical standards and guidelines.
Compensation

Hourly: $30–$40, plus shift differentials. $5,000 sign‑on bonus for new full‑time employees.

Basic Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Active CA‑RVT license is required for this position with 2+ years of experience OR experience as a Senior Veterinary Assistant with 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate.
  • Consistent and reliable ability to monitor anesthesia, perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position‑related calculations.
  • Maintain the California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP); must obtain within 60‑days of hire or transfer into this role (this requirement is waived if incumbent holds a valid CA‑RVT license).
  • Proficient in anesthesia administration and monitoring.
  • Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate approach to patient care.
