Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Per diem Registered Nurse to provide autonomous nursing care for pre and post-transplant patients under supervision of attending physicians and nurse leaders. You will serve on multidisciplinary transplant teams, educate patients and staff, and link families with care teams across settings.

Qualifications include CA RN license, BLS/CPR, 3 years of acute/ambulatory care, and transplant experience.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months.
• Minimum of three years of recent face-to-face patient care in an acute or ambulatory setting.
• Experience caring for solid organ transplant patients on a nursing floor or outpatient unit.
• Willingness to provide coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs.
• Availability to work variable shifts based on departmental needs.
• Ability to orient to multiple transplant service lines and clinic settings.
• Maintain required competencies across assigned transplant specialties.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities.
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.
• Must have excellent communication to influence with staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to perform triage and handle urgent situations with accuracy, expediency and tact.
• Ability to handle unexpected challenges in a critical care setting and create plausible solutions in a team-centered environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical assistance and support in treating and managing pre and post-transplant care.
• Act as key member of the multidisciplinary transplant teams.
• Consult and liaison for patients and their families with attending physicians, house staff, social workers, financial and administrative staff, and community physicians.
• Provide teaching to patients, staff, and community organizations.
• Collaborate with attending physicians on admissions, discharges and outpatient care.
• Cross train to cover nursing positions in pre and post-transplant as well as the transplant multispecialty clinic.
