Regions Hospital is seeking a per diem Surgical Care Assistant (Nursing Assistant) to join our Surgical Services team. Under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager, the Nursing Assistant/Surgical Care Assistant helps prepare patients for surgery and assists them after surgery.

The surgical care assistant will aide in the nursing care of newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients including the following tasks: Responsibilities include bathing,

Qualifications

• BLS certification and nursing assistant program completion.
• Acute care or long-term care nursing assistant experience (min 6 months at 0.5 FTE).
• One RN/LPN clinical rotation completed within one year.
• ER Technician experience (min 6 months at 0.5 FTE).
• Experience or education must be within the last five years.

Responsibilities

• Bathing, re-positioning and assisting with transports daily.
• Help patients to bathroom and room patients on arrival and discharge.
• Transport patients to their car and restock supplies.
• Wipe down equipment, set up rooms and clean carts after use.
• Collect vitals and weights, perform glucose testing as needed.

Regions Hospital is looking for a per diemSurgical Care Assistant (Nursing Assistant) to join our Surgical Services team.

Under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Manager, the Nursing Assistant/Surgical Care Assistant helps prepare patients for surgery and assists them after surgery. The surgical care assistant will aide in the nursing care of newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients including the following tasks:

• Perform activities such as bathing, re-positioning, and assisting with transports daily
• Help patients to the bathroom
• Room patients when they arrive for surgery and on discharge to home, transports patients to their car
• Wipe down equipment and carts, sets up rooms for next patient and wipes down surgical carts after each use
• Collect patient data including vital signs and weights
• Perform glucose testing as needed
• Restock area with supplies

Required Qualifications:

• BLS certification AND completion of a nursing assistant program
• Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)
• Completion of one clinical rotation in an RN or LPN program within one year
• Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)

Please note: experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years

Preferred Qualifications:

• Six months experience in a health care setting
• Hospital experience strongly desired
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate
