Job summary

Regions Hospital is seeking a per diem Surgical Care Assistant to join the Surgical Services team. Under supervision, the Nursing Assistant helps prepare patients for surgery and assists post-operatively, including newborns through geriatric patients, with vital signs, data collection, and daily care.

The position involves room setup, patient transport, and equipment cleaning, with a focus on efficient, compassionate care.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required or equivalent
• Completion of nursing assistant program or related clinical rotation within the last five years
• Experience in acute care or long-term care as Nursing Assistant (min 6 months at 0.5 FTE) or ER Technician (min 6 months at 0.5 FTE)

Responsibilities

• Bathing, repositioning, and assisting with transports daily
• Assist patients to bathroom
• Room patients on arrival and discharge; transport to car
• Wipe down equipment; prepare rooms; clean carts after use
• Collect patient data including vital signs and weights
• Perform glucose testing as needed
• Restock supplies in the area

Job Description

Regions Hospital is looking for a per diem Surgical Care Assistant (Nursing Assistant) to join our Surgical Services team. Under the Direction And Supervision Of The Charge Nurse And Nurse Manager, The Nursing Assistant/Surgical Care Assistant Helps Prepare Patients For Surgery And Assists Them After Surgery. The Surgical Care Assistant Will Aide In The Nursing Care Of Newborns, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult And Geriatric Patients Including The Following Tasks

• Perform activities such as bathing, re-positioning, and assisting with transports daily
• Help patients to the bathroom
• Room patients when they arrive for surgery and on discharge to home, transports patients to their car
• Wipe down equipment and carts, sets up rooms for next patient and wipes down surgical carts after each use
• Collect patient data including vital signs and weights
• Perform glucose testing as needed
• Restock area with supplies

Required Qualifications

BLS certification AND completion of a nursing assistant program

OR

Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)

OR

Completion of one clinical rotation in an RN or LPN program within one year

OR

Experience as an Emergency Room Technician (6 months at a minimum of .5 FTE)

Please note: experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five years

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months experience in a health care setting
• Hospital experience strongly desired
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate
