Position Summary

Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention.

Responsibilities

1. Works closely with Radiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic exams.
2. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor conducive to quality care.
3. Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
4. Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
5. Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and standards of excellence.
6. Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age-specific needs.
7. Provides instructions to achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
8. Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and ensures accurate documentation.
9. Positions patient, equipment, and associated devices; manipulates technical factors to achieve high-quality images for interpretation.
10. Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
11. Complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all related tasks.
12. Administers medical aid as required for emergencies.
13. Applies standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
14. Assists in supervision of student sonographers and training of new staff.
15. Utilizes all radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
16. Ensures safety of all patients and staff.
17. Maintains regular, punctual attendance per Orlando Health policies and applicable federal and state standards.
18. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate of an accredited school of sonography and meets ARDMS eligibility guidelines.

Licensure/Certification

• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through ARDMS or CCI.
• Current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
• Maintains ARDMS physics registry and at least one other ARDMS registry.
