Job summary

THE NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION seeks a Per Diem Security Guard to patrol school grounds and facilities, protect occupants, and deter hazards. Responsibilities include door checks, fire safety inspections, and escorting personnel after hours.

Candidate will assist law enforcement when needed, monitor entry points, and respond to emergencies. This role supports public safety across various facilities in Newark.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safeguarding large areas, buildings, and grounds.
• Knowledge of security measures in detaining persons.
• Knowledge of fire prevention.
• Knowledge of procedures used in making arrests and prosecutions.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures.
• Ability to understand, remember, and carry out directions.
• Ability to stay alert while performing repetitive duties.
• Ability to give clear directions.

Responsibilities

• Protect buildings, contents, and occupants from hazards.
• Visually inspect doors, locks, and fixtures to ensure security.
• Inspect areas for fire hazards and ensure extinguishers are in place.
• Observe for smoke or gas and abnormal sounds.
• Escort employees after hours and maintain order at entry points.
• Search entrants for firearms or dangerous objects and issue passes.
• Record observations and report conditions to supervisor.
• Attend bomb detection and first aid training as required.
