Responsibilities

  • Administer and safely store all medical supplies and prescribed medications.
  • Regularly assess clients for specific nursing needs and monitor health.
  • Provide preventative health maintenance like blood pressure checks.
  • Provide preventative health maintenance: blood pressure check, weight, health care education.
  • Work with staff to develop programs related to clients' health and related issues.
  • Act as resource person to program staff, clients, families, and care providers regarding health care issues and concerns.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of client medical files and ISP requirements; participate in or complete nursing assessments, progress notes, and other applicable documentation.
  • Provide and/or assist with regular in-service training in coordination with nursing staff.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  • Protect the health and safety of all consumers and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Healthcare Supervisor.

You are invited to apply for the position of Per Diem Substitute Nurse at Lifeworks, in the Day Habilitation Department.

Summary

Ensures the health and safety of individuals by assessing individuals for specific nursing needs. The role complies with all principles of Human Rights, D.P.P.C., Department of Developmental Services, the Division of Medical Assistance, and all applicable funding regulations adhered to by Lifeworks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administer and safely store all medical supplies and prescribed medications.
  • Treat any daily health care problems, including first aid and emergency problems.
  • Regularly assess clients for specific nursing needs and health problems, and monitor accordingly. Lift and transfer individuals as appropriate.
  • Provide preventative health maintenance: blood pressure check, weight, health care education.
  • Work with staff to develop programs related to clients' health and related issues.
  • Act as resource person to program staff, clients, families, and care providers regarding health care issues and concerns.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of client medical files and ISP requirements; participate in or complete nursing assessments, progress notes, and other applicable documentation.
  • Provide and/or assist with regular in-service training in coordination with nursing staff.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and one year of experience in a program working with the developmentally disabled.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and proofread routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of individuals or employees of an organization.

Vehicle/Travel

Requires a legally insured and inspected automobile for use to be present at work and available for use during working hours. If the program has an agency vehicle, staff are expected to drive it as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

RN/LPN registration, valid and current driver's license from the state of residency.

Physical Demands

Relevant demonstrates required physical demands: use hands to handle or feel, stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; specific vision abilities include close vision. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
