An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Radiation Therapist to join their team. In this role, you will deliver precise radiation treatments to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. Your responsibilities will include documenting treatment parameters, maintaining equipment, and providing guidance to new staff and students. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Team Leader:
1.1 Accurately deliver radiation treatment to patients according to the prescription provided by the Radiation Oncologist.
1.2 Accurately document radiation treatment delivery and all technical parameters.
1.3 Meet and greet new patients upon arrival to the dept.
1.4 Provide initial orientation of patient check in, dressing room and waiting areas.
1.5 Orient patients to patient and family waiting areas, dressing rooms, refreshment stands and treatment areas.
1.6 Explain the overall patient flow through the dept, expected wait times, digital signage,
1.7 Stock the treatment rooms with linens.
1.8 Incumbents must demonstrate competence to meet the age-specific needs of their patients. This may include pediatric, adolescent, teenage, young adult, adult and elderly cancer patients. The mix of patients under the care of the therapist could include patients from any or all of these age groups at any given time
1.9 Physical strength to lift accessories weighing up to 40 pounds
1.10 Capable of comfortably lifting and inserting patient accessories into the treatment units at all possible treatment angles during patient.
1.11 Physical reach to work with equipment as high as 5-6 feet above the floor
2.0 Quality Assurance:
2.1 Perform daily output and alignment checks on linear accelerators
2.2 Review electronic charts at the initiation of treatment, when treatment plans are changed, and throughout the course of therapy for completeness and order
2.3 Take verification films per policy or per request to ensure accurate placement and design of treatment fields
3.0 Other Duties:
3.1 Contribute positively to the efficient delivery of treatments, with minimal overtime expenditure, efficient utilization of resources, and maximum patient comfort and satisfaction
3.2 Work with the patient, family, and/or social service to establish a schedule that will allow the treatment program to proceed as smoothly as possible
3.3 Maintain equipment and orderliness of the treatment area
3.4 Participate in department meetings, retraining, and continuing education activities
3.5 Participate in the clinical instruction of student radiation therapists and the orientation of new staff
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Willingness to teach student therapists and serve as a positive role model for all staff members
* Physical reach to work with equipment as high as 5-6 feet above the floor
* Physical strength to assist or lift impaired patients from a wheel chair or stretcher
* Physical strength to lift accessories weighing up to 40 pounds
* Capable of comfortably lifting and inserting patient accessories into the treatment units at all possible treatment angles during patient treatments.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS
Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist-Radiation Therapy License required
ARRT Certification with active registration and CE compliance required
EDUCATION:
Must be a graduate of an ARRT recognized program in radiation therapy technology, BS required if graduated after 2000. Associate degrees will be accepted for candidates that completed their education prior to 2000.
EXPERIENCE:
New Graduates:
* Clinical internship in a major cancer center is preferred
* Experience with modern linear accelerators, simulation and verify / record systems
Duties can be performed in the following locations - MGH Radiation Oncology at Newton Wellesley Hospital or Emerson Hospital
Incumbents work in close physical proximity to team members
Must be willing to work flexible days/hours based on department need and patient volume
