Job summary

Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a Per Diem Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our Rehabilitation team. You will provide physical therapy treatments under the direction of a Physical Therapist, helping residents progress toward individualized goals with compassionate care.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, reviewing care plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Per diem coverage includes weekends/holidays as needed, in a long-term care setting serving Veterans.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current State of Maine licensure as a PTA.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide PTA treatments under the direction of a Physical Therapist.
• Review care plans and medical records to ensure safe treatment.
• Document treatments and progress (daily notes, weekly notes, discharge summaries).
• Participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Monitor and communicate changes in residents’ condition to the team.
• Collaborate with PTs, OTs, assistants, SLPs, rehab staff, and nursing.
• Maintain therapy equipment in safe, clean condition.
• Provide education to facility staff as directed.
• Uphold resident rights and confidentiality.
• Follow rehabilitation policies, state/federal regulations, and VA requirements.
• Provide weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
