Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Merced, CA is seeking a Per Diem Psych LVN/LPT to join our 16-bed Merced Crisis Residential Unit. You will provide direct nursing care on 12-hour AM and/or NOC shifts and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in an inpatient mental health setting.

Starting compensation ranges from $32 to $34 per hour, with a $2 differential for NOC shifts. This role offers competitive pay, generous time off, comprehensive benefits, paid CEU opportunities, and supervision for

Qualifications

  • A valid California LVN or LPT license is required.
  • High School diploma or GED is required; an associate degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience is required, preferably in inpatient mental health.
  • 1 year of experience with medication administration is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care and supervise same provided by nursing staff on the shift.
  • Observe, document, and report the patient’s physical or mental condition to appropriate supervisors.
  • Administer medications as ordered and ensure delivery from pharmacy.
  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation in the medical record for the shift.
  • Write a weekly client summary as assigned.
  • Coordinate or supervise shift reports (verbal or written).

Working Hours/Shift

Per Diem coverage needed for 12-hour AM and/or NOC shifts (06:00-18:30 / 18:00-06:30). Coverage is as needed, based on facility needs and the candidate’s availability. NOC shift includes a $2 differential.

What you bring:
  • Licensure: A valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license is required.
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSET) is required; an associate degree in nursing or a social science field is preferred.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of nursing experience is required, preferably treating individuals with mental illness in an inpatient setting. (Clinical nursing school rotations may be substituted for a portion of this experience.) One (1) year of experience with medication administration is preferred.
How you will make a difference
  • Provides direct nursing care and supervises same provided by all nursing staff on the shift worked.
  • Visually and audibly observes, documents in writing, and reports orally or in writing the physical or mental condition to the Program Manager and the attending physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Orders, prepares, administers, and documents the administration of medication for clients according to physicians’ or nurse practitioners’ orders.
  • Confirms delivery of all ordered medication from pharmacy on shift worked.
  • Responsible for writing a weekly summary on clients as assigned.
  • Monitors and maintains appropriate nursing documentation in the medical record for shift worked.
  • Prepares, presents, and coordinates or supervises a verbal or written change of shift report.

  • 24/7 inpatient voluntary program 16-bed facility for adults (ages 18-59)
  • Rehabilitation/recovery services, including substance use rehabilitation services
  • Pre-vocational or vocational counseling
  • Medication evaluation and support services
