Job summary

United Health Services (UHS) Chenango Memorial Hospital is seeking a per diem Phlebotomist to collect and prepare specimens across inpatient, outpatient, and off-site settings. You will verify patient information and orders, explain procedures, and support a calm, compassionate patient experience.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, specimen labeling and handling, and entering orders in the EHR, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and timely results to guide patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification or equivalent.
• Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatient, outpatient, and assigned off-site patients, including venipuncture, capillary collection, urine collections, breath testing, and glucose tolerance testing, to support accurate and timely laboratory diagnosis.
• Verify patient identity, test orders, and collection requirements before each draw to protect patient safety, support specimen integrity, and reduce pre-analytic errors.
• Enter and verify laboratory test orders in the EHR, confirm diagnosis and authorization documentation when applicable, and resolve incomplete or inconsistent requisition details to support compliant order processing and uninterrupted patient care.
• Prioritize STAT, timed, and routine draws and organize workload across rotational assignments, including bedside, outpatient draw sites, nursing home coverage, and pre-admission testing support to meet turnaround-time expectations.
• Process, label, store, and transport specimens according to established procedures so samples arrive in the laboratory in proper condition for testing and analysis.
