Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago seeks a per diem Registered Pharmacist for the RAB Retail Pharmacy. Under Pharmacy Unit Manager direction, you will perform professional functions in the retail setting and contribute to safe, effective drug therapy.

Responsibilities include interpreting prescriptions, monitoring patient profiles, counseling patients, and coordinating with physicians and nurses. This per diem role requires a license in Illinois and relevant experience; shift 4, 8-hour

Qualifications

• Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in Illinois.
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (desired).
• Minimum of one year hospital pharmacy experience and two years retail pharmacy experience is desired.
• Capable of evaluating and monitoring drug therapy in ambulatory care in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and validates prescriptions for legibility and authenticity.
• Checks patient profile for medication information before dispensing.
• Evaluates dosage regimen for appropriateness of dosage and duration of therapy.
• Evaluates refill status and may determine refill abuse or non-compliance.
• Fills and checks prescription orders in a timely manner.
• Educates and counsels patients on proper use of medications.
• Assists in orientation and training of new staff and serves as a preceptor to students.
• Participates in electronic data processing systems for pharmacy operations.
