Job summary

Geisinger in Pennsylvania is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support registered nurses and provide direct patient care in a clinical setting. You will assist with daily living activities, document care, and help maintain a safe, clean unit environment.

This role includes one-to-one patient safety watch, specimen handling, basic nursing tasks under supervision, and participation in discharge processes and care coordination. Per diem, rotation schedules, and orientation are part of the position.

Qualifications

• Provides hands-on patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
• Maintains accurate medical records and unit environment.
• Assists with activities of daily living and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Provides enhanced patient care under the nurse's direction, including dressing care, suctioning, Foley/IV care.
• Performs venipunctures and skin punctures per CLSI guidelines.
• Manages breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas storage and delivery.
• Documents care in medical records and coordinates with licensed staff.
• Observes patient condition and reports changes to licensed personnel.
• Obtains and preserves specimens; transports to the laboratory.
• Assists with daily living activities and changing linens.
• Provides one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned.
• Performs point of care testing and maintains QC of instruments.
• Supports problem-solving and equipment maintenance; mentors new staff.
• Executes admissions, transfers, discharges, and death clerical duties.
• Releases test orders and coordinates transportation of patients for tests.
• Schedules tests and faxes consults; communicates electronically as needed.
• Orders supplies and coordinates with food services for diets.
• Operates clerical equipment and maintains unit workflow.
• Transfers non-controlled medications to/from Pharmacy and Blood Bank if needed.
• Conducts discharge follow-up calls and coordinates virtual discharge appointments.
