Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking an Occupational Therapist to evaluate and treat patients under physician prescriptions. You will deliver direct care and develop treatment plans to improve upper-extremity function, working toward maximizing independence.

The role involves documenting care, selecting and instructing on Durable Medical Equipment, and contributing to quality improvement efforts. Licensure in New York and 1–3 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required.
• Current License to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required.
• OR Current limited permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required (outpatient settings only).
• Specialized certifications, as needed.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.

Responsibilities

• Administers direct patient care in accordance with the prescription from the referring physician or State authorized practitioner.
• Develops and implements treatment plans to improve gross and fine motor coordination, movement and function of upper extremities.
• Submits required documentation per department policies and procedures.
• Utilizes evaluation techniques to establish goals and designs treatment plans accordingly.
• Provides patient remediation to enhance daily functioning.
• Reviews and arranges Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and instructs patients in use and follow-up care.
• Participates in quality improvement chart reviews and activities.
• Treats patients with acute or developmental disabilities using kinetic activities, perceptual training and developmental sequencing.
• Instructs patients and caregivers in daily living skills to promote independence.
• Performs related duties as essential functions under ADA.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

New York State OT license

New York State OT limited permit (outpatient only)

Evaluates and treats patients with disabilities, injuries and/or disease in accordance with the written and signed prescription and/or referral of a state licensed physician or other State authorized practitioner.

Job Responsibility

• 1.Administers direct patient care in accordance with the written and signed prescription of the referring physician or other State authorized practitioner.
• 2.Develops and implements treatment plans to improve gross and fine motor coordination, movement and function of upper extremities.
• 3.Submits required documentation in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
• 4.Utilizes thorough and appropriate evaluation techniques to establish realistic goals; designs and implements a treatment plan which best meets the needs of the patient and works toward achieving established goals.
• 5.Provides patient remediation in patient’s deficit areas to assist the patient to achieve maximum functioning in his/her daily life.
• 6.Reviews and arranges for required Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and instructs patient in use and protocols for dealing with malfunction of same; makes appropriate recommendations for follow-up care upon discharge.
• 7.Participates in quality improvement chart reviews and activities.
• 8.Treats patients with acute or developmental disabilities using methods including but not limited to: kinetic activities, perceptual training and developmental sequencing.
• 9.Instruct patient and significant caregivers in daily living skills including, but not limited to, tub transfers, dressing activities, feeding and household activities in order to promote a more independent and self-sufficient level of functioning.

Job Qualification

• 1.Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• 2.Current License to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required.
• OR
• Current limited permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required (applicable to outpatient settings only).
• Specialized certifications, as needed.
• 3.1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
