Thompson Health is seeking an OB First Assist who collaborates with the surgeon to support safe obstetric operations and ensure optimal outcomes.

The role requires NYS PA certification, licensure, and ability to gain hospital privileges; DEA license, BCLS; ACLS recommended. Per Diem, 12 or 24 hour on-call shifts; must live within 30 minutes of the hospital.

Qualifikationen

• Assists in operative procedures and collaborates with the surgeon and healthcare team
• Maintains asepsis and infection control practices
• Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient or performs these independently as directed
• Provides hemostasis by clamping vessels, coagulating bleeding points, and ligating vessels
• Gives exposure through instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging while observing the operative field
• Handles tissue, sutures the peritoneum, fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin with proper closure
• Cleans wounds and applies surgical dressings
• Affixes and stabilizes drains
• Assists in transferring the patient from the operating room

Ausbildung

AMA approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification

Description

The OB First Assist collaborates with the surgeon and the healthcare team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. The OB First Assist must have acquired the necessary knowledge, skill and judgement specific to clinical practice. The OB First Assist practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon in the operative phase of the labor experience.

• Apply knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures wherein the APP assists


• Apply principles of asepsis and infection control skillfully


• Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient, or performs these independently if directed by the surgeon


• Provides hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and by other means as directed by the surgeon


• Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques by closely always observing the operative field, demonstrating stamina for sustained retraction and anticipating the needs of the surgeon


• Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon, sutures the peritoneum, fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin, by demonstrating the different types of closure, and correct approximation of tissue layers.


• Cleans the wound and applies surgical dressings


• Affixes and stabilizes all drains


• Assists in transferring the patient from the operating room

Schedule

Per Diem, Call shifts can be 12 or 24 hours.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduation from an AMA approved school as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification required

Pay Rate

$10.00/hour to be on call and $140.00/hour if called in with a guarantee of 2 hours.
