Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY seeks a full‑time, board‑certified Physician Assistant to join its Surgical APP Service. Responsibilities include OR first assisting, rounding on inpatients, consults, admissions, and discharges within a hospital‑based team across subspecialties like Urology and Gynecologic Oncology.

Night coverage available, on‑call from home, with a 4‑day work week schedule and holiday/weekend obligations.

Formación

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and NCCPA certified or Nurse Practitioner with NY licensure.
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education required
• New graduates will be considered

• In-house shift managing surgical floor patients across subspecialties (e.g., Urology, Gyn‑Oncology)
• Perform history and physicals for consults or admissions from ED or inpatient floors
• Confer with attending physician, nursing staff, and other APs to plan care
• Night coverage – on call from home with first assisting emergent OR cases and admissions
• Floor procedures including NG tube insertion/removal, wound vac changes, dressings, bedside I&D

The Subspecialty Surgical PA Service at Vassar Brothers Medical Center is seeking to add a full-time board-certified Physician Assistant to join its surgical APP team. The Surgical APP Service at Vassar Brothers Medical Center is a hospital-based group that offers a supportive and team-based environment with exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties including but not limited to Urology and Gyn-Oncology. Responsibilities currently include OR first assist coverage as well as rounding on surgical inpatients, perform consults, admissions, and discharges.

• OR First Assisting- Surgical PA Services first assist in the OR
• In-house shift to include management of surgical floor patients. Specialties covered include, but are not limited to, Urology and Gyn-Oncology.
• Perform history and physicals for any consults or admissions from the emergency department or inpatient floors for the surgery department
• Confer with attending physician, nursing staff, and other advanced practice providers in plan of care to ensure optimal quality patient care
• Night Coverage – On call from home. Night coverage responsibilities include first assisting emergent OR cases, admissions and consults for general surgery.
• Floor Procedures- Surgical PA’s are responsible for floor procedures including but not limited to NG tube insertion and removal, wound vac and dressings changes, bedside I&D.

This position is for full-time days, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (4 day work week), with required holiday coverage, weekend and call obligation.

Qualifications

• The qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and be NCCPA certified or Nurse Practitioner program with licensure.
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education required
• New graduates will be considered
