Job summary

UR Medicine Thompson Health in Canandaigua, NY is seeking a Per Diem OB First Assist—Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. The role supports the surgeon in labor and operative care and requires NYS PA licensure, RNFA certification, and OR experience.

The position is on-site, part-time with on-call shifts; compensation includes on-call pay ($10/hour) and a guaranteed $140/hour when called in, with a 2-hour minimum.

Qualifications

• Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital campus
• NYS certification/registration as a Physician Assistant
• NYS Licensure and current Registration required
• DEA license required
• BCLS certification required, ACLS recommended
• Able to gain appropriate FFTH privileges required
• Previous experience in an operating room preferred
• Graduation from an AMA approved school as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification required
• Meets continuing education requirements of the applicable discipline board

Responsibilities

• Assist in operative procedures under the surgeon's direction
• Apply asepsis and infection control principles
• Position, prep, and drape the patient as directed
• Provide hemostasis and tissue handling as directed
• Assist with exposure using instruments and retractors
• Suture tissues and secure closures as needed
• Clean wounds and apply dressings; manage drains
• Transfer patient from the operating room and support CARES values
