Qualifications

• Graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a nursing diploma and enrolled in BSN within 2 years.
• Current California RN license.
• Minimum of 3 years related experience, PACU or Critical Care preferred.
• BLS CPR, ACLS, and PALS through American Heart Association.
• 1 year perioperative experience or perioperative course within 6 months of hire.

Position Summary

As a Clinical Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at City of Hope, you will play a critical role in the healthcare continuum, providing specialized care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery. Your responsibilities encompass various aspects of patient care, from monitoring vital signs to managing pain and ensuring a smooth transition from the operating room to the recovery phase. Your expertise in the PACU is essential to ensuring patient safety, comfort, and a successful post-operative recovery. You will be an integral part of our dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in the lives of cancer patients. The schedule for this opportunity is per diem, 12-hour shifts, and variable shift start times (start times can range from 8:00am-12:00pm). The per diem flat rate for this position is $81.16/hr. This position is also eligible for a unit differential up to $2.23/hr additional and evening shift differentials up to $2.75/hr additional. There is a minimum of 1 shift per week availability required for per diem positions.

As a successful candidate, you will:

• Post-Anesthesia Care: Provide expert nursing care to patients recovering from surgery and anesthesia. Monitor vital signs, assess pain levels, and administer medications as needed to ensure optimal recovery.
• Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough patient assessments and collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans. Recognize and respond to any post-operative complications promptly.
• Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, and discharge instructions, ensuring they are well-informed and comfortable during their recovery.
• Critical Thinking: Use your clinical expertise to make informed decisions, evaluate patient responses to treatments, and intervene when necessary. Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the recovery process.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care. Effective communication and teamwork are essential in the PACU environment.
• Quality Care: Adhere to City of Hope's high standards for patient care, safety, and infection control protocols. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.

Your qualifications should include:

• Graduate from nursing school with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Graduate from a nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a BSN program (must obtain BSN within two years of hire or transfer).
• Current California RN license
• Minimum of three (3) years related experience, PACU or Critical Care experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
• ACLS through American Heart Association
• PALS through American Heart Association
• *For Perioperative Service – Requirement of 1-year perioperative experience or formal Perioperative nursing specialty course completed prior to application or within 6 months of hire or transfer.
