Job summary

Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant for our primary care/specialty clinic to cover gaps in coverage as needed. This per diem, non-exempt position supports patient flow, taking vital signs, coordinating with the provider, and assisting with exams and immunizations.

Responsibilities include collecting demographic and insurance information, verifying eligibility, processing co-pays, and maintaining clean exam rooms.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program.
• If not nationally certified, must obtain ABR-OE within 6 months of hire.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
• Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients and collect demographic and insurance information.
• Verify insurance eligibility and collect patient co-pays.
• Assist with exams and immunizations.
• Maintain clean exam rooms and practice standard precautions.
• Provide telephone support and manage messages promptly.
• Maintain supplies and medications per practice standards.
• Assist with scheduling, referrals, and prescription renewals.
• Participate in quality improvement and disaster preparedness efforts.
