Job summary

Island Health in Washington is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN to join our per diem team, providing care to mothers, newborns, and families in a supportive, family-centered maternity setting. This role offers flexible per diem shifts with on-site coverage to meet patient needs.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited nursing program, current WA RN license, BLS certification, and at least one year of labor, delivery, postpartum, or nursery experience.

• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development across life span and can tailor care to age-specific needs.
• Understands and supports principles of case management.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibilities of labor, delivery, postpartum, and nursery nursing with direct patient care.
• Administers prescribed medications and treatments per nursing standards.
• Follows the 5-step nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation).
• Participates in communication and problem solving with patient and health team members.
• Develops teaching plans and evaluates outcomes with patient/family.
• Documents nursing care per established standards.
• Maintains patient data entry in the computer system.
