Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks a licensed Clinical Staff Pharmacist to join the Inpatient Pharmacy team on a per diem basis. You will provide direct pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages, review medication orders, evaluate therapy, and serve as a drug information resource across the hospital.

The role requires a PharmD (or B.S. in Pharmacy), completion of a PGY1 residency, and DC pharmacist licensure or reciprocity eligibility.

Qualifications

• PharmD or B.S. in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
• Completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency.
• District of Columbia Pharmacist registration or reciprocity eligibility.
• Expert knowledge of pharmaceutical practice, handling, storage and preparation techniques.
• High attention to detail, especially for pediatric and neonatal orders.
• Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility for interruptions.
• Computer literacy with prescription verification software.
• Availability to work variable per diem shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages in collaboration with hospital personnel.
• Interpret and timely process medication orders and maintain patient medication profiles.
• Evaluate orders for age, organ function, and disease considerations; intervene as needed.
• Act as a drug information resource for medications, alternatives, IV compatibility, and contraindications.
• Monitor and forecast pharmaceutical inventory levels to support operations.
• Document adverse drug events and medication errors; assist in corrective actions.
• Coordinate procurement of non-formulary drugs when needed, under director supervision.
• Ensure proper labeling, packaging and storage of all dispensed products.
